From the Pastor’s Desk—Mass Locations

Mass in the Krumpe Activity Center (KAC)
Until Late October???

My announced plan was to have all weekend Masses in the KAC. This plan was in response to the many complaints of parishioners who were saying that they were not going to come to St. Bart’s as long as the air conditioning was not working.

I did not realize two major problems with this plan:

  1. The KAC is scheduled for special events and sports frequently at times that make it difficult or impossible to rearrange the furniture for Mass.
  2. There is a crushing amount of work for our small crew of volunteers to make the switch over each time we have Mass in the KAC. There was a tremendous amount of work to do the heavy lifting at the beginning (the altar, the lectern, the candlesticks, the microphone equipment, etc.), but even now, the work to pull out the altar furnishings (they have to be stored tightly together to remain safe from damage), not to mention the many chairs, is a lot to ask of our volunteer crew.

Therefore, we will frequently have weekend Masses in the Church, whenever the temperature seems tolerable, or when the KAC’s scheduled usage makes it necessary.

One of our volunteers has made easy-to-see signs as you pull into the parking lot, which say “Mass in the Church” or “Mass in the KAC” along with an arrow. These signs make it easy to know with certainty where the Mass will be on a given day. We will also keep our Parish website current, saying where the Mass will be on a given weekend (we’ll try to have the decision listed by Friday, Noon).

So, this is the new plan. If you know that the heat/humidity will be intolerable for you on a given weekend when we are using the Church, I recommend going to St. Vivian or one of the other churches in our Family. Replacing an air conditioning system for a building like ours is not something that happens in a few weeks. We have received some generous donations, and we intend to have a new system installed in time for next spring. I thank you for your patience.
